Avicii has been a rising star in the dance music scene since 2010. And he has played a major role in the explosion of EDM into pop culture with hits such as Levels, Bromance and Wake Me Up. The young Swedish DJ made history this past weekend, being the first ever DJ to headline a show at The Hollywood Bowl.
Although Avicii stirred controversy with his Ultra Music Festival weekend 2 set, which featured many songs from his most recent album True, he has moved far beyond the criticism. His hit single off the album, Wake Me Up, has been sitting comfortably in the top 10 of the USA top 40 singles chart for months now. And there is no sign that this Swede will slow down any time soon.
The Hollywood Bowl show demonstrates not only how far Avicii has come as an artist but how far EDM has come since its early days in the 70s and 80s. The scene laid underground for decades but it's proven itself to be a relevant and innovative genre of music that is here to stay. The show featured opening acts Arty, Excision and Sander Van Doorn who warmed up the crowd, but the real show started when Avicii took the stage. Complete with lazers, pyro and an epic firework finale - Avicii went above and beyond expectations. Don't miss this guy next time he comes into town!
