If you've read any of our past posts, you know that our agency has a slight obsession with food. And since we are located DTLA, we are fortunate enough to have some pretty amazing lunch spots, happy hour spots and on late nights, dinner spots. So, how do we know where the best food is served? Well...luckily there are a few apps for that and here are our top picks:
"Foodspotting is a visual guide to good food and where to find it. Instead of reviewing restaurants, you can recommend great dishes and see what others recommend wherever you go." Founded in 2009 this app is geared towards dishes, not just restaurants. With so many other restaurant review apps, Foodspotting wanted to create a new kind of guide that was more visual. The app works in a few different ways. You can look up your location, search for a particular dish, look up restaurants you love to see what others love there, follow friends and experts, you can bookmark foods you "want" and you can recommend dishes you have "tried" or "loved."
UrbanDaddy is a lifestyle media company that was founded in 2005 and launched its mobile app in 2009. The app is a "concierge-in-your-pocket" and uses location, time, day and weather information to deliver venue recommendations based on your situational context. For example, you are able to conduct a search based on where you are, what time of the day it is, what you want (coffee, a snack, dinner, drinks, dancing, etc) and who you are with (friends, family, coworkers, a date, etc.) This app is great if you are new to an area - like downtown LA!
Find. Eat. Drink.
Find. Eat. Drink. is a unique guide based on eating, drinking, and shopping recommendations from chefs, sommeliers, bartenders, winemakers, baristas, butchers, pitmasters and food artisans. This app will show you restaurants worth going out of your way to experience, speakeasy cocktail dens, fine dining, funky dives, unique food shops and farmers markets. With so many trustworthy recommendations you're sure to have an amazing dining experience every time you put your faith in this app.
la.eater.com is a popular food blog in many areas of the U.S. covering top cities. This blog has managed to breakdown large metropolitan cities and cover ground breaking news stories related to food. The Eater app also breaks down LA’s large boundaries into smaller areas and will use your current location to show you the top restaurants in your neaighborhood, in real-time. How may you ask? Through an Eater Heatmap. This app is perfect for the smaller DTLA neighborhood.
Great Food Nearby: Ness
No longer do you have to browse through hundreds of reviews and different options before choosing a place to eat. Ness will choose a place for you… “Just like you discover music with Pandora or movies with Netflix, Ness learns your tastes as you rate, save & dismiss restaurants, then finds new places you’ll love.” So, if you spend some time with this app, it will learn your tastes and will figure out what appeases your hungry belly. But if you're in a hurry and are downloading this app right before lunch, we recommend looking for the DTLA “lists” that locals have created. These will give you results right away for the restaurants that will truly “wow” you.
